Review - The Illustrated Mom - Jacqueline Wilson

The Illustrated Mom - Jacqueline Wilson

I enjoyed this book and I could not put it down! Jacqueline Wilson writes highly emotional novels and this one, in my opinion, is the most expressive one that I've read!

The two sisters, Dolphin and Star are very close, but very different, (The book is written from Dolphin's point of view ). Dolphin is unpopular at her Primary school and she gets teased often by the children in her class, by her appearance, as they are not rich and she can't afford a proper school uniform and so she has to wear a thin, little black dress to school. She also gets teased about her name, where she then gets the nickname Bottle Nose. Dolphin is not good at school but she has an excellent imagination. She realises she is dyslexic. During the middle of the book she befriends a boy in her class called Oliver, he is also an outsider. They realise they have a lot in common and Oliver (nickname Owly, which he detests) loves all of Marigold's tattoos that make he stand out from the crowd, the get on like a house on fire. Dolphin loves her mom and will support her through anything but taht character faces some tough decisions later on in the book.

Star on the other hand is completely different. She has long, silky blonde hair, she is constantly top of the class and she is one of the more popular girls at her High School. She is thirteen years old and petite for he age. She can not stand Marigold's tattoos and her drinking habits. She goes and runs off with her dad, Micky, whom Marigold found at the band Emerald City's reunion concert. Will she come back? You'll have to read the book to find out!

That's all I shall say, there is a lot of twists and turns and this book. Some parts will have you laughing and some will have you crying, either way you will have tears in your eyes. It's a very good and I think it would be great if you could read it. It also made me realise how lucky I am to have such incredible parents! Read this book!

I give it: 4/5 cupcakes
